  Why Art? Why Paint

Why art? Why paint?

These two questions enter my mind once in a while when I wonder why I'm painting. I find painting takes me away to another time and another place. When I am lost in painting, I am finding a part of my inner life, a life of space, color, and design, of thoughts I can't put into words.

I know that my spiritual life is a part of my painting. It shows in my subject matter. I could choose to paint the dark side of my life, but I would rather lift myself up and give way to God's blessings to me and to humanity. I can create a scene for myself that pleases me and wishes me to be there for a while.

In life, we are on a journey, following our hearts desires, not knowing where it will lead us in the end. In my painting, I am on a journey, leaving behind me bits and pieces of my vision of life.

Why paint? Because it pleases me and it provides an outlet for the expression of how I view God's world. My inner world is multi-faceted, not one dimensional, and that's why you will see a variety of subject matter. Only the observer will be able to tell me who they think I am.
